Mumbai, also known as the city of dreams, attracts migrants from around the country. This massive influx of migrants creates problems like overcrowding, housing shortage, lack of open spaces, etc. While it contains one of the most expensive housing projects in the world- Antilia, it also accommodates Asia's largest slums- Dharavi. Almost half of Mumbai's population lives in inhabitable dwellings around the city or the suburbs because the homes in the city are unaffordable, while the other half lives in posh high rises making Mumbai a city of contrasts. The project envisions Mahalaxmi as a symbiotic neighborhood where there is coexistence between people of different groups of society, vehicles, and pedestrians, the built environment and nature, etc., through better accessibility, walkability, ecological sensitivity, thereby bridging the gap between low-density and high-density neighborhoods.
