The project ‘Manueuvring the Urban’ is developed during the Monsoon semester of 2022. It aims to understand the competing process of push & pull of city-making from macro to micro scale. This is explored through various analytical techniques & design processes across three modules at the city & area level with a specific focus on the manifesto, design of public & private realms and their regulations. From tracing the impacts of acts, policies, and regulations at the city level to Site analysis & manifesto building, these are translated into a master plan followed by two design processes to finally compare & offer recommendations.

Dadar is a point of origin for its residents, a point of passage for thousands who move through it to access their livelihoods, and a stopping point for many passersby that find themselves drawn to the exceptional availability of options in the market. The large diversity of uses and users on site creates many stakeholders in a single location. This, and the limited availability of space, leads to overlaps in use across the site, creating chaos and congestion. As a consequence of this overlap, the site clearly better accommodates the more powerful uses and users, bringing us to the theme of this collage - “mumbai sheher mein aapka swagat hai?”, a question for the viewer, more than a simple statement.
Everyday negotiations in the city - Dadar, with its multiple uses and functions, and its diverse identity, holds the potential to become a model inclusivity in an exclusive city for the coexistence of its varied functions and stakeholders in an organised, efficient manner.
Our vision is to imagine the site as an inclusive neighbourhood, where access to and within the site is simplified to accommodate all its uses and users in an organised, efficient manner. The following strategies may be used to achieve the same.
