The project uses the analysis drawn for the site of Dadar in Mumbai, to design and layout regulations and guidelines to achieve retain and enhance the unique character of the Dadar market and its residential neighbourhood in the process of free design. Constraint design follows this by challenging the desired objectives with the existing regulations. A comparison of the outcomes of both processes is drawn and a way forward is recommended as an outcome. 

Chronometrix is a compilation of 14 acts, regulations and policies which were the milestones in the making of the urban form of Mumbai that we see today. Either by successful implementation or failure in execution (as is in most cases) these acts, regulations, development plans and policies have determined the way in which Mumbai’s housing, transportation, ecology and land market have been shaped over the years.
Based on understanding derived from the chronomatrix and site analysis, a manifesto for the site is derived. It comprises a vision and design strategies in order to achieve the objectives of the site. Density, accessibility and ecology are taken as the key principles while designing the land use and concepts for the master plan.
The free design introduces public plazas and wide sidewalks to address the large footfall of people accessing the market and the residential areas beyond the market. Regulations are used to encourage vending and market-specific activities.
The objective here is to maximise the built form in order to provide high-density housing in the neighbourhood. To balance this, the open spaces are kept along the predominantly pedestrian street and are made accessible to the public.
Master plans and FSI maps of free design and constraint design.
Constraint design prioritises achieving at least 50% ground coverage as per TOD regulation. A substantial area is given as private open spaces (LOS). As a part of an intense TOD zone, no boundary walls are allowed on this site.
With the change in uses as per the TOD regulations, a part of FSI in each plot hosts small commerce for the residential neighbourhood. Civic uses have been added to the use to cater to the area in the form of small community centres, offices, etc.
Comparison of Urban Condition 1: Design outcomes from free and constraint design modules are compared in terms of physical changes and relationship changes to arrive at a set of non-negotiables and suggest an approach as a way forward for designing and regulating at a neighbourhood scale.

The culmination of all the processes is done with reflection on parameters which are imperative for any redevelopment and an approach to guide the way forward for Dadar.
