The increasingly complex and dynamic social, political and ecological constructs of the world offer opportunities to explore new meanings in public architecture, including its scale. Public infrastructure, is currently seen as a monofunctional, homogenous entity, of mega scale, disconnected from people and experience without any tactile presence. This studio aims to define the spatial relationships of people with urban infrastructure. The focus is on water infrastructure where researching the traditional water infrastructure is expected to provide clues and lessons. Architecture becomes the interface. It becomes a way of rethinking the manner in which our cities and urban environments are infused with new infrastructure. This act of reimagining water infrastructure, will be undertaken using the structure of a fictional narrative exploring new typologies and hybrid programs that are expressions of the changing urban conditions within the expressions of the built form. Students are expected to seek out issues of concern and define their project in terms of program, site and brief specific to water infrastructure and spaces for water in the city.
