 The Architectural Tectonics Studio at the Foundation (MAAT) is dedicated to instilling a robust disciplinary framework within the program, placing significant emphasis on the design and fabrication processes. The initial phase focuses on cultivating an understanding of mechanisms, mechanical motions, and their practical applications. Students harness their honed workshop skills to create a mechanically controlled Fenestration unit. Moving on to the second segment of the studio, participants delve into comprehending structural forces and their manifestation in architectural forms. This comprehension is facilitated through hands-on physical modeling, encouraging an active engagement with the principles of structural articulation. The studio's third and final section revolves around the synthesis of the previously acquired skills. Students are challenged to apply, refine, and layer these skills in response to a designated design challenge. The culmination of this stage involves testing these abilities through the exploration of three emerging typologies within a high-rise context. The overarching consideration is the anticipation of future challenges, such as resource constraints, land shortages, and the imperative of sustainable design practices.
