The intervention along and around the Daman Ganga River hopes to revitalise and optimise water. Water being a crucial resource to the mankind, the site is gifted with abundance of water. Water exists in different places and are of different types. There is a thorough need of a proper system in place, to use water judiciously and promote water sustainibilty. Further, how the system works can be a recreational retreat and an experience for the public around. The project aims at decoding water, where the water is flowing, urban flooding being an important aspect, much of the urbanised areas falls well within the floodplains. The patch choosen for intervention demonstration, also falls within the same area. A strategy called ‘SSR’, which simply translated into Separate, Store and Remidiate has been followed. This primarily intends to separate brackish, fresh and dirty water. The land has been remodulated such that the water channelises towards the freshwater reserves from the main river, during this journey the water remidiates through natural interventions such as sponges, phytoremidiation, siltation patches; etc. the water gets purified and acts as a reserve for thriving aqautic life. And for the extra harsh water coming from industrial and urban areas neccessary sewage treatment plants have been placed. Contour remodulation has led to formation of dense vegetation patches which support a highly thriving biodiversity, rich in its flora and fauna. Interventions like percolation wells help recharge the groundwater tables. This water stored can be reutilised and repurposed. Like this the cycle continues and helps attain water sustainibility. While the system of water is working in its own, it creates a natural user experience for the local fishermen, tourists to enjoy. Up until now the water was just seen. But now it can be used, I for one would take a dip in this water.
