The Passive and Comfort Lab integrates theoretical aspects of building physics, heat transfer principles, measurements of variables, and simulations. It covered diverse topics such as climate, solar geometry, mass transfer, psychrometry, and natural ventilation. Our course Project, The Ice Box Challenge facilitated hands-on application of optimising the building envelope design, around which our studio was centered. The simulation module allowed us to practically test learned principles. We analysed the impact of incremental change of parameters like U value, SRI, SHGC on walls, roofs, and windows, and in turn understood their impact on thermal loads of building.
