This studio delves into the essential aspects of building physics to improve energy efficiency, combining theoretical understanding and practical experimentation. The three modules cover foundational building physics concepts, the measurement of environmental variables, and advanced building energy simulation. Starting with climate analysis, solar geometry, and heat transfer principles, it progresses to hands-on applications like the Ice Box Challenge, involving the design of a 45m³ volume and experimentation based on heat transfer principles. The final module employs Design-Builder software for simulation modeling, analyzing the impact of various design strategies on building thermal loads. Through this comprehensive approach, the studio empowers students to optimize building performance and energy efficiency effectively.
