This architectural intervention is a strategy to reduce the amount of heat gain through the roof for the low-income housing settlements in Vatva, Ahmedabad. Ahmedabad has a hot and dry climate, which receives harsh sun for most parts of the day. Since the roof is the major source of heat gain in these houses, the strategy aims to reduce this transferred heat by using shading and thermal insulation. While tackling the heat issue, the intervention also aims to provide a gathering space for the community’s residents. This strategy thus provides simple and cost effective solutions to the residents.
