The adaptive reuse of the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Stadium in Navrangpura, involves transforming it from an occasional event space into a vibrant daily public wellness center that respects the site's historic and cultural significance. The redesign focuses on activating the underutilized volumes under seating arena by incorporating sports retail stores, herbal shops, gyms, spas, training workshops, and resource centers. The north and west part of the stadium undergo a purposeful redevelopment, transforming into versatile spaces that cater to day, evening, and night activities. This strategic utilization ensures the stadium remains a lively and engaging destination throughout the entire day. Emphasizing the preservation of the structural marvel rooted in early modernism architecture, the project retains the essence of the original design. Selective removal of certain parts allows for the integration of additional masses, seamlessly blending the old with the new. Furthermore, the focus on spatial experiences throughout the narrative journey of the space adds a layer of thoughtful design, enhancing the overall user experience. The project not only repurposes a significant architectural landmark but also contributes meaningfully to the social and cultural fabric of the community it serves.
