The proposal grows within the lush greenery, adjacent to the iconic building of N.I.D., as a reminder to the relationship between reflection and making. It houses diverse workshops serving NID’s academic vision on both sides of the unloading street, making it the makers‘ street. The double heighted workshops open to yards with a deliberate integration of vegetation, to preserve the existing context and elevate the experience of making. With the introduction of a metal mesh mezzanine walkway, the makers‘ street extends beyond the ground level, directly into the studios in the second floor of the N.I.D. building,. This retains the studio-workshop relationship with which N.I.D. was conceived. The walkway with cutouts is designed according to the existing trees. On occasions (such as Sundays), the western edge of the workshops transforms into a space for scrap-commerce connecting back to the culture of Ravi vari, reinforcing the multiple different scales of engagement.
