Before the 2000s, the eastern part of Ahmedabad was known for its thriving textile and diamond industries, which attracted job seekers from various regions. Bapunagar became a settling ground, predominantly supported by Kathiyawadi builders. These industries, led by the Kathiyawadi communi =-ty, played a pivotal role in drawing people to this area. With the increasing population, neighboring regions like Thakkarbappa Nagar saw significant growth, drawn by their proximity to industrial zones. Despite an existing residential presence in Nikol Gam, its strategic location made it a prime choice for residential development.
