Nikol, situated in eastern Ahmedabad, Gujarat, has undergone a transformative journey from farmland to a diverse urban space. Initially an agricultural outpost, its evolution was catalysed by the Odhav GIDC (Gujarat Industrial Development Corporation), fostering residential settlements due to its proximity. It witnessed rapid informal development, necessitating regulatory intervention by AUDA. Infrastructure projects like Virat Nagar road and government housing schemes reshaped the landscape. In 2011, increased Floor Space Index attracted private developers, leading to a surge in residential towers. Presently, Nikol reflects a mosaic of residential types, commercial complexes, and warehouses, embodying economic class disparities and diverse living patterns.
