The studio encompassed the notion of sociocultural circumstances and cultivated an admiration for the built fabric as relevant to the hospitality industry with attitudes in conservation and reuse. It identified the intricacies of programming and crafting a hospitality design, while exploring spatial opportunities, and scrutinizing the values of adaptive reuse. The initial weeks focussed on various functions within the hospitality industry and the principles of planning food and beverages, hospitality space with an interior style and concept creation relevant to the identity of the place. The later weeks focussed on exploration of a material palette and design style to articulate spacemaking elements and reinforce the concept initiated to the final design. The site was an existing building with a heritage value and students had freedom to create an identity for the project and incorporate it into the design of a restaurant, cafe, bar, etc.
