Between Utopia and Reality : Reimagining Affordable Living for Millennials

Owning of the first home is an elusive dream that results in forever sprawling cities. One must ask then…, What is the demographics of buyers, in particular, Millennials for housing in our cities? Are prevailing dwelling stereotypes still relevant for Millennials? Is lifestyle of Millennials changing especially in view of the future and if so, what is that home of future that is relevant and appropriate? What is a contemporary community and how can evolving typologies support desirable aspects of communal living and our unique culture? This studio attempts to generate an honest enquiry in redefining the blurred line between our needs and wants, what is a home for the future that is relevant and also contributes towards the essential ingredients for the makeup of a healthy, inclusive and sustainable community. Students will have the opportunity to engage with the design process as a synthesis of logistics, pragmatics, aesthetics and economics.
