While it’s been debated that God is in the details, for anyone concerned with the impact of the built environment, and its role in shapig human experience, one should keep in mind the equally common phrase, The devil is in the details. Our studio was interested in moving back and forth between these two radically different scales of thinking, one being the scale of the building and the second being a smaller scale detail. Buildings are designed and developed by thinking about big ideas context, social and cultural issues, and massing. While reasonable places to start, these relegate the details to playing a more subservient role in the process. The studio aimed to develop an insideoutapproach which questions this part to whole relationship between objects, structure, envelope and site. The studio aimed to disrupt our conventional relationship with architectural compositions and rethink the correlations between objects and their assemblies.
